New Year’s Reflections + New Focus Word for 2020

Happy New Year!

Is anyone else besides myself looking around and wondering how we got here so fast!?! 😱 Twenty nineteen was an AMAZING year with so many wonderful new experiences and memories, and I’m kind of sad to be leaving it behind. 😊 Although I am really excited about this new year! Looking into the new year is like opening a brand new journal and putting ink down on that first clean page…and thinking about all the new things you will fill the rest of the pages with!

The Lord has been so good to us this year, and looking back I am so thankful for all that He blessed us with, as well as the many lessons He taught me.

Here’s a quick review of all that’s happened in the previous year:

January – I found out I was going to be an aunt for the first time! 😍 I also started giving piano lessons to a group of Hispanic kids at a nearby church.

February – Some good friends came from out of town and helped us build an addition on to our house.

May – Had our first farmer’s market season under our new pavilion.

June – Attended the Marriage, Family and Life Conference with my family in Mississippi. (Would highly recommend! It was such an encouragement!) -While in MS, we jogged over to Alabama where I was able to meet a pen-pal I’ve been writing for seven years!

July – Watched my younger sisters participate in the National Bible Bee for the first time. This has been such a blessing to our family! Not only have my sisters been able to commit hundreds of Bible passages to memory, but we’ve also made some new friendships through it.

August – Celebrated my youngest brother’s 20th birthday/Manhood Ceremony. It was such a special time with family and consisted of lots of laughter and good food. πŸ™‚

September – We welcomed my beautiful little niece to this world on September 30th! Elizabeth Joy Silvey is truly is joy and has brightened our lives with her smiles and adorable ways! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’— Being an aunt is way more fun than I could ever have imagined!

December – We had a few Christmas programs going on this month: A Live Nativity Scene, (which was a wonderful opportunity to share about the true meaning of Christmas!) and also a Christmas concert at our church.

As I was sitting on the couch the other day with pen in hand writing down some goals, I was thinking and praying about a new focus word for this year. The Lord kept bringing FAITHFUL to mind, and it is something that He had been teaching me about this past year.

~~ Faithful ~~

(adjective) Constant in the performance of duties or services; exact in attending to commands. (synonyms: Loyal, constant, steadfast, devoted, dedicated, committed)

In this new year, I want work on being more faithful with everything the Lord has given me:

  • My relationships
  • My time
  • My money

My desire is to be faithful steward of these things, and to not waste any of them. I also want to be faithful to listen to and obey God’s will for my life and to follow wherever He leads.

“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful in much.” (Luke 16:10)

“Only fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24 ESV)

“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…faithfulness.” (Galatians 5:22)

What is something the Lord has been teaching you this year? What is something you feel like you need to focus more on in the new year?
